Submit the request

Requests for new connections to Chevron pipelines must be submitted in writing and are handled by Business Development Representatives.

System requirements

Protect the network

Connection designs must support the safety, security, integrity and efficient operation of the affected pipeline system.

Industry practice

Meet design standards

Technical requirements are evaluated in accordance with generally accepted pipeline industry standards.

Regulatory review

Demonstrate compliance

Every proposed connection is also subject to applicable governmental compliance requirements.

01

State your intent

Provide a letter indicating that your company wants to become a shipper.

02

Verify supply

Submit written proof of a supply source for the commodity to be transported.

03

Verify receipt

Show that a terminal or connecting carrier will receive the commodity from the pipeline.

04

Establish credit

Provide sufficient financial information for Chevron to evaluate creditworthiness.

05

Receive status

After documents are submitted, Chevron responds in writing with the status of the request.

Prorated systems

One additional declaration may be required.

For prorated systems, a prospective shipper must provide a letter signed by a company officer stating that the company has not been a consignee of an existing shipper on that pipeline during the preceding 12 months.

Requirements are reviewed for the specific common carrier system involved in the request.

Credit requirements

Financial readiness supports service.

If a prospective shipper is not creditworthy—or an existing shipper’s credit deteriorates—Chevron may require prepayment of tariff-related charges and/or an acceptable letter of credit from an appropriate financial institution.

Quality banks

Accounting for changes in a common stream.

Chevron Pipe Line Company manages gravity and sulfur banks so that shippers are not disadvantaged—or allowed to benefit—from quality changes created by common stream operations.

The banks calculate, collect and remit monetary adjustments among shippers tendering crude to participating systems. A Customer Service Representative can identify which crude systems use quality banks.
